Homemade meat sauce can be one of the best and versatile recipes you can master. With it you can make a bolognese, lasagne, burritos, nachos, tacos, chilli con carne and so on! Keep a few serves of meat sauce in the freezer add a few extras in the pantry and you will be able to whip up a spaghetti bolognese, nachos, chilli con carne or an easy homemade lasagne in no time at all!
EASY MEAT SAUCE RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
2 cans (15 ounces each) tomato sauce
2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) diced tomatoes, undrained
1/2 cup minced fresh parsley
2 teaspoons garlic salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon each dried basil, chili powder and pepper
2 bay leaves
METHOD
In a pot brown meat and onion over medium heat
Add the tomato sauce, tomatoes,parsley and seasonings.
Bring to a boil
Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Uncover; simmer 15 minutes longer or until sauce reaches desired consistency.
Discard bay leaves.
Freeze in meal-size portions.
To use frozen meat sauce: Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Place in a saucepan; heat through.
MEAT SAUCE INSPIRATION
Spaghetti Bolognese: Meat sauce served with spaghetti
Nachos: Meat Sauce served with Nachos and topped with chopped avocado, tomatoes and red onion
Chilli Con Carne: Meat Sauce with 2 tsp of taco seasoning and a can of red beans mixed served with rice
Easy Lasagne: In a lasagne dish layer a third of the meat sauce, cottage cheese mix, lasagne sheets & mozzarella cheese
Repeat layers & Bake at 350F for 40 min
INGREDIENTS FOR LASAGNE
Meat sauce
8 oz lasagne sheets
1 lb cottage cheese & 1/4 cup milk mixed together
8oz mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup parmesan cheese

I make a meat sauce very similar to yours. It is a favorite of mine to have on hand at all times. I have never thought of using for Mexican-inspired entrees though. That’s a great idea. I’ll definitely try it. Thanks!
